Eczema, also known as Atopic dermatitis, and is a skin inflammatory disorder that could affect any person and at any age both children and adults. It usually starts in childhood and it can be found among families that have either eczema, Hay Fever Asthma or Eczema
The skin in eczema, is dry, itchy and easily irritated as it doesn’t keep moisture in very well.
Symptoms
Common symptoms include very itchy, inflamed, red rough, dry or cracked skin. Blisters can also be present. The condition often begins on the face and can spread to the trunk, limbs and the rest of the body, especially in the flexures (body folds).
Depending on the stage of eczema we have different presentation The first stage is the acute stage, and the skin is red dry and itchy When the eczema lasts for a few weeks it becomes chronic it can appear not as red, but drier and faky. During the subacute stage, the stage between acute and chronic, the skin is less itchy, red, and flaky. In the chronic stage the rashes cover bigger area with intense itchiness.
Causes
The development of eczema is a combination of genetic predisposition and environmental factors.
- Triggers could be foods, perfumes, dust, pollen, grass, pollutants and others. Eczema symptoms tend to come and go.
- Symptoms can be triggered by temperature, stress and skin irritants.
